Vespers - The Ark Door

  • Christ Lutheran Church 501 N Clear Springs Rd Mustang United States (map)

"I Am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved..." (John 10:9). There are several famous doors in Scripture. These doors are dividing lines between God's judgment and God's mercy. This Lent we will travel through Scripture examining some of these doors.

After the Fall (Genesis 3), Scripture records the increasing degeneracy and wickedness of mankind. In reaction to this, God plans to wipe out almost all mankind in a flood. In His infinite mercy, God spares Noah and his family, eight souls in all. When the door shuts on the ark it is both an act of judgment and mercy. Judgment on the wickedness of man. Mercy on faithful Noah and his family. Today, the church is the ark of God: those in the church will be saved while those outside face eternal death. This is why God calls us to make disciples of all nations, so all might be brought into the church and saved.
