It all began with people who desired God.
Christ Lutheran Church was founded in Mustang, Oklahoma on November 10, 1974 with around 30-40 saints calling the new church home. Rev. Ned Dobberfuhl (Faith Lutheran, OKC) served the budding congregation during these early years until it could call a pastor of its own. In 1975, Christ rented the "Old Baptist Church" in Mustang for the first few years. In 1979, Christ Lutheran called Rev. Barney Baumann and he served until 1983. Christ then called Rev. Larry A. Miller straight from Seminary. Under Pastor Miller, the Holy Spirit grew the church and a site for a new building and several acres were purchased with the help of the Lutheran Church Extension Fund in 1986 and is where the congregation currently resides. The building was completed in 1988 with the help of Laborers for Christ. In 1994, the Lord of the church led Pastor Miller to Helana, Montana. Christ called Rev. Mark Cutler in 1995. In 1998, Christ Lutheran built a school on its property. Pastor Cutler served until late 1998. Christ then called Rev. Terrance Adamson in 1999. Sadly, in 2005 the school building was sold. Pastor Adamson served Christ Lutheran until early 2006. In 2006 the church decided once again to call its next pastor from the Seminary. Rev. David Owens accepted that call. His first few years were marked by an intensive reconciliation process, bringing peace to the congregation. Pastor Owens served faithfully until his retirement at the end of 2018. In 2019, Christ Lutheran called Rev. Daniel Ross, who continues to serve the congregation.
Since its founding, Christ Lutheran has been engaged in the ministry of Word and Sacrament, fellowship of believers, outreach to the lost, and mercy to those in need in and around Mustang. Quilting classes, softball leagues, Angel Food Ministries, food pantry, daycare, day school, dartball, Community Picnic and Craft Show, Easter Egg Hunts, Trunk or Treats, Vacation Bible School, Shepherds Soup (gift baskets given to those who have to work Christmas Eve/Day), Western Day Parade floats, catechesis classes, Bible Studies, worship services, streaming Bible studies and worship services, and so much more. These events and ministries reflect a growth in faith. Christ Lutheran has been Joy:Fully Lutheran since 1974!

Our Denomination
Christ Lutheran Church is a member congregation of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS or Missouri Synod for short). The LCMS was organized by German immigrants in 1874 at a meeting in Chicago, as the German Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States (German: Die Deutsche Evangelisch-Lutherische Synode von Missouri, Ohio und andern Staaten), a name which reflected the geographic locations of the founding congregations. The nucleus of the immigrants came over to America from Germany in the 1830’s and 1840’s, fleeing religious persecution. In the 1860’s, the LCMS saw rapid expansion in the American South as it was one of the few church bodies that created churches, schools, and even a college for newly freed slaves, defying groups like the KKK. During the first two decades of the 20th Century, the LCMS became a primarily English speaking denomination, switching over from German. Today’s Missouri Synod is multicultural and spread across all 50 U.S. States and two Canadian provinces. It is in altar and pulpit fellowship with Lutheran church bodies around the world.
Our District
The Oklahoma District of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod is a fellowship of congregations committed to caring, sharing, teaching, preaching and reaching people so as to bring them into a living relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit works dynamically within and through the congregations of the Oklahoma District. Lutherans built churches in Oklahoma before statehood and today, over 80 congregations ranging from small to large, rural to urban are found in most parts of the state.
As the original Protestant group, Lutherans have a heritage of over 500 years. The movement of reform that spawned the Protestant churches began on October 31, 1517 by an ordinary yet remarkable man named Martin Luther. Because of his efforts, Bible reading, hymn singing, and preaching became commonplace in the church. He showed by means of the Bible that through personal faith in Jesus Christ every Christian has access to God.
In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. - Eph. 3:12 (NIV)
Lutherans are in every state of the U.S. and on every continent. The Lutheran Church is the largest Protestant family in the world, and third largest in the U.S. The LCMS has numerous partner churches throughout the world, and sends missionaries into many different nations. Lutherans are eager to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to invite you to share their church as your spiritual home. You can be assured of concerned pastoral care and of careful attention to the truth of God’s Word. The fellowship of our churches is warm and caring. We invite you to know and worship God with us.
