"I Am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved..." (John 10:9). There are several famous doors in Scripture. These doors are dividing lines between God's judgment and God's mercy. This Lent we will travel through Scripture examining some of these doors.
The inner doors of the temple separated God from the people., it is a reflection on how sin separates us from God. Once a year on Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) the high priest would enter the "holy of holies" in the Temple and sprinkle the blood of sacrifice on the Ark. This blood covered the sins of the people. The blood of all the sacrifices was temporary, however. No sacrifice of an animal could atone for the sins of the world for all time or for all the world. Only the blood of God could do such a thing. But "Christ offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins" (Hebrews 10:12). This sacrifice removes the barrier between God and man for all who believe.
