Vespers - The Tomb's Door

  • Christ Lutheran Church 501 N Clear Springs Rd Mustang United States (map)

"I Am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved..." (John 10:9). There are several famous doors in Scripture. These doors are dividing lines between God's judgment and God's mercy. This Lent we will travel through Scripture examining some of these doors.

After Jesus is unjustly tried, beaten, and crucified, He is buried in a tomb. To make sure the disciples cannot steal the body a large rock with a great seal is rolled in front of the tomb, sealing it. Here we see the judgment of sin - death. This is also the judgment on the world - that mankind rejected Jesus. The world sits in darkness as the "light of the world" (John 8:12) has been extinguished. But, on Easter Day the door is rolled away and where there was death there is now life as Jesus Christ is resurrected.
