Vespers - The Sheep's Door

  • Christ Lutheran Church 501 N Clear Springs Rd Mustang United States (map)

"I Am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved..." (John 10:9). There are several famous doors in Scripture. These doors are dividing lines between God's judgment and God's mercy. This Lent we will travel through Scripture examining some of these doors.

Jesus says that He is the door of the sheep. Any who enter through Him will be saved, and a person can only enter the sheepfold through Him. In ancient times, shepherds would rest in the door of the sheepfold. The sheep could not enter or depart unless the shepherd let them in or out. Nor could anything attack the sheep fold unless it first attacked the shepherd. Jesus is the Good Shepherd who willingly dies for His sheep. He stands in the door and suffers death so that the sheep might have life.
