A Personal Welcome To Our Christmas Services & Events
Pastor Daniel Ross
As the pastor at Christ Lutheran Church, I personally welcome you to our Christmas services and events.
Christmas is when we celebrate one of the greatest mysteries: God becoming man in Jesus Christ. Long ago it was prophesied that those sitting in deep darkness would see a great light. Jesus is this light, He is God with us. He came and dwelt with us on earth, so that we might dwell with Him in heaven through the forgiveness of our sins.
That is an occasion worth celebrating, and I invite you to celebrate with us here at Christ Lutheran.
What Is Christmas About?
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. (Isaiah 9:2, NIV)In [Jesus] was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it…The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 14-5, 14, NIV)
Gerard van Honthorst - Adoration of the Shepherds, 1622
Christmas is about the eternal Word of God, God’s Son, taking on human flesh for our salvation.
God the Father created the world through His Son. When the world fell into darkness on account of human sin, He sent that same Son to redeem the world. By the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born to a woman named Mary, 2,000 years ago.
He lived a perfect life, the life we have not lived on account of our sins. Yet, he suffered the consequences of sin through His death. That suffering was in our stead.
All who believe in Him have eternal life. We share in the the merits of His righteous life because He shared with us in the consequences of our sin.
That’s the message we celebrate at Christmas.
What to Expect
The message at Christ is simple: We preach Christ and Him crucified. In every service Christ is with us, offering grace and forgiveness where He promises they will be:
in His Word and in His Sacraments.
At Christ, you will find a warm, welcoming, and family friendly atmosphere. We come from all different backgrounds. While we may be different from each other individually, we are united by our faith in Jesus Christ. All are welcome and we hope to see you soon!
You will arrive at Christ Lutheran to either our East or South Parking Lot. In the East Parking Lot are accessible parking spaces.
Once in the building you will enter our entrance way which connects both to the Nave (sanctuary) and our Fellowship Hall. The Fellowship Hall will be set up for overflow seating.
If you are here for a worship service, an usher will hand you a bulletin, and you can find a seat in whatever pew you like. Our pastor will also often greet you before the service.
Our worship services are about an hour long. You will find them to be reverent but also relevant to our greatest struggles.
FAQs
-
Parking is available on the east and south sides of the building. There are dedicated accessible parking spots available in the east parking lot.
-
You can just show up! There is no need to make a reservation or to call beforehand. We have space for you, and we often have people just show up.
-
Casual dress or Sunday best, it does not matter to us! We just want you to be comfortable. It is not unusual to see the whole spectrum at any service.
-
For Christmas Services, we recommend arriving 20-30 minutes before a service time to allow time to “get situated” and speak with the pastor if you so desire. Our Christmas Services can be quite packed, so we encourage ample time to find the perfect seat.
-
We have long, cushioned benches with backs on them. We call them “pews.”
You are welcome to sit in any pew you prefer. On some Sundays, we may have a few pews in the front reserved for groups observing a special occasion like a baptism.
-
We do have a nursery and cry room for those that would like to utilize it. We have a TV and audio set up so that you can still follow along with the service if you use the room. We know that children and persons with special needs like to wiggle, giggle, and make noise. That does not bother us. We encourage families to be together during worship and so welcome all the fun and excitement that all people bring.
-
Services are around 60-75 minutes in length, depending on what is occurring in a given service. Services include singing, prayers, an engaging message, a time for offerings, and a few announcements. Special music from Choir, Children’s Choir, handbells, etc. is offered regularly. Our services are Christ centered, biblical, relaxed, reverent, and welcoming.
-
Yes, we do have listening assistance devices. Please ask an usher if you need one and they will help set it up for you.
-
You are welcome to participate in the worship service to the extent that you feel comfortable. You do not need to sing any hymns or speak the creed or any other responses.
In general, it is polite to stand when the rest of the congregation stands and to sit when they sit, if you are able. However, if you are unable to stand or feel uncomfortable standing for the portions of the worship service when we stand, you are free to remain seated.
If you are not a communicant member of a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) or American Association of Lutheran Churches (AALC) congregation, we ask that you speak with the pastor before receiving communion at our altar.
We make this request out of love for you and your spiritual well-being.
If you are unable to receive communion at our altar, simply remain seated during the communion distribution.
-
A lot of people can be nervous coming to a church. We get it! If you decide to come, you will find a warm, welcoming environment filled with friendly people. You can also check out our service beforehand either through live-streaming on Facebook or watching on YouTube.
-
We will not call special attention to you as a visitor. You will not be asked to stand up or introduce yourself.
-
Our worship services are provided free-of-cost.
Depending on the service, we have an offering plate at the entrance to our nave (worship area) or we pass the offering plate down the pews during the service. If you wish to contribute to our ministry, you may leave a contribution there.
However, do not feel compelled to leave a contribution.
-
We have men’s and women’s restrooms (with changing tables in each) in the northwest part of the building (just as an usher or look for the signage).
We also have a child’s restroom in the southwest part of the building.
